Cupboards

Cupboards

A cupboard is a practical tool in the home allowing us to store our necessary (and unnecessary) things close at hand for when we need them.  They range from practical and plain to individual pieces of art and, when a client asks us to make them a cupboard, they usually lean toward the latter.

At Artefacts, we’ve always tried to incorporate “found” elements into our designs to create something extraordinary and personal for our clients – even better if they have a hand in the creation.

As much as possible, we prefer to use salvaged lumber, trim, hardware and other details in our work believing that these elements carry with them their singular attributes that set our pieces apart.

Here are a few examples of some of the cupboards we’ve made.  Enjoy.

The Fragments

We had these pine parts of an old bakery counter – incomplete but striking nonetheless.

Part Way There

Beth asked us to make her an inverted counter for her “barn house” so we pushed the front panel to the back, recreated the missing side panel with some door pieces and …

Voila

The finished piece, rubbed with a beeswax coat and ready to go.

Home Office

This stunning cupboard was built from a pair of Romanian front doors and sundry trim from the same entrance. The interior featured sliding shelves, cubbies and suitable spaces for all a home office’s needs.

Dressing Room Shelving

A fun play with the design of the room, these clothing shelves are made from salvaged pine barn flooring soft sanded and varnished to give a warm glow.

Bathroom Vanity

This pretty (and pretty useful) vanity was made using salvaged pine flooring sanded and varnished and barley twist pilasters with a distressed coat of paint and some toning wax.
